Energy-forward Town Upgrades to LED Streetlights

September 04, 2014

Light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights will be making a clear difference in this popular summer retreat north of Toronto soon to become better known for its energy-efficient infrastructure. South River is upgrading to LED streetlights during August and September, just six years after opening a geothermal plant that generates power from the earth’s heat. The municipal savings from its streetlight energy initiative is expected to reduce streetlight energy costs by 70% and streetlight energy consumption at 69% after the first year with LED fixtures.
