KFM-Sudbury, Ontario News Coverage of Blind River LED Streetlight Upgrade

July 24, 2014

Upgrading 591 streetlights to energy-efficient, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in Blind River, Ontario made news on KFM radio, which serves Sudbury and North Bay, and also reports on news from Blind River. The LED streetlights deliver both energy savings plus an innovative, cost-saving strategy known as an Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC).

The ESPC did not require Blind River to pay capital upfront. Instead, RealTerm Energy financed the upgrade and the town will fund the project cost by sharing the annual savings in energy and maintenance costs thereafter. RealTerm Energy also provided project management over the lighting system analysis, installation and overall project management. After the upgrade, Blind River is expecting to reduce energy use for its streetlight system by up to 72%.

LED streetlight conversions are trending in Ontario cities and towns. To date, more than 50 other municipalities in the last 12 months, including Espanola, Elliot Lake and Huntsville, have also engaged RealTerm Energy and Local Authority Services to provide their LED upgrades.
