MONTRÉAL, QC – RealTerm Energy is proud to congratulate Jeffrey Barten on his recent acknowledgement as Canadian LightSaver of the Year by LightSavers Canada. The award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership to advance the implementation of innovative outdoor lighting solutions through project and/or policy impact.

In his role as Energy and Asset Service Manager of Local Authority Services (LAS), part of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, Jeff was instrumental in developing the LAS LED Street Lighting Program that provides a turnkey solution for municipalities looking to make the switch. The program, developed by partners LAS and RealTerm Energy, is positioned as the industry leader in LED streetlight conversions in Ontario with over 150,000 streetlights under contract and growing.

The partnership in the joint-procurement model developed by LAS, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and RealTerm Energy has also been recognized by the World Bank as being among the most efficient and successful delivery models in the world.

“It is an honour to be able to contribute to Ontario’s energy conservation efforts. Our program has significantly grown since its launch in March 2013. We currently have 158 municipalities (36% of Ontario municipalities) under contract, representing approximately 153,000 streetlights. Through our program, Ontario municipalities are conserving 61 million kWh annually in energy consumption, which translates into $13 million in energy and maintenance savings,” explained Jeff Barten. To date, the program has also secured over $15.1 million in incentives through the IESO’s SaveONenergy program.

“We are thrilled to congratulate our partner Jeff, on his recent acknowledgement as Canadian LightSaver of the Year and for his commitment towards energy conservation and long-term energy sustainability,” said Sean Neely, President of RealTerm Energy.

LightSavers Canada presented the award during their National Summit in Toronto, on Friday, November 18, 2016. LightSavers Canada is a market transformation initiative of the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI), started by the Toronto Atmospheric Fund in 2008 and led by the CUI since 2012. LightSavers’ purpose is to accelerate the adoption and deployment of smart and connected LED lighting systems in streets and parking areas across Canada. Switching to LEDs saves energy, reduces GHGs and provides a platform for more connected cities.
