Lighting Up London! Attracts 250 to View LED Streetlight Display

August 18, 2014

LONDON, ON - Seeing LED streetlights in person made a big difference according to those who attended Lighting Up London!, a live LED demonstration on King Street hosted by Ontario’s Local Authority Services (LAS) RealTerm Energy Sunday night.

The event was a live display of 20 of London’s streetlights upgraded to light-emitting diodes (LED) along King and Waterloo streets in London. It attracted nearly 250 Ontario municipal leaders as well as lighting and energy-efficiency professionals, most of whom were attending the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) 2014 Conference at the London Convention Center.

Lighting Up London! also featured AMO’s incoming president Mayor Gary McNamara, Tecumseh, ON, who described the light of LEDs as a light of the future that is worth following. He presented multiple examples of Ontario townships that upgraded to LEDs and are already saving significantly on energy costs and consumption. RealTerm Energy Associate Director of Business Development Michelle Hjort then explained more of the technology of how LEDs help towns realize those savings. She also demonstrated the remote dimming and switching abilities of smart controls connected to the King Street LEDs.
