The Barrie Examiner features our LED streetlight upgrade in the Township of Oro-Medonte

September 26, 2016
Oro-Medonte, LED lighting

Oro-Medonte residents will soon begin noticing improved lighting along Township roads. Starting the week of September 26, installation crews will be upgrading our cobra head and post-top style streetlights to LED fixtures.

The Township has been working with Local Authority Services (LAS) and RealTerm Energy to convert 799 streetlights to LED technology throughout Oro-Medonte. In partnership with LAS and RealTerm Energy, an assessment of the existing streetlight network was conducted to create an energy efficient and cost-effective design.

The new fixtures will help reduce streetlight energy consumption by approximately 58% as LED lights require far less electricity than the existing lights being replace. The conversion will also cut streetlight maintenance costs by up to 80% as LEDs last over 20 years, four times longer than the Township’s current streetlights.
